Awkward and Awesome: If There Was An Earthquake...

AWKWARD

-Earthquakes...on the East Coast!? Totally unheard of! I was in a meeting when it happened and the guest speaker was all like, "Oh, it's just the HVAC system"! Ummm, definitely not! Whose HVAC system have you been around? Obviously not a proper functioning one because nooooo one's HVAC system should make a whole building shake like that. Crazy lady!

-My undying love for JayZ. The fact that his tour with Kanye West is coming as close to me as DC and I won't be able to attend is blowing my lifetime high right now. Thank goodness for a new job but to hell with the fact it's gonna look irresponsible for me to take days off within the first few months of me being there. This is some bull-ish!!

-I'm on a manic hunt for Cowboys tickets. Anyone know where I can find a super good deal on them?

-Some random female named 'Tamika' who left her number on my man's ride. How dare you, you lame excuse of a woman? You have no class or respect for yourself!! Please hide under a rock somewhere...HE IS MINE!!! Bitch!!

AWESOME

-Started my new job on Monday. And the heaping amount of information that they've given me over the past couple of days have been totally overwhelming. But I'm not complaining. I'm ecstatic!! Woot Woot!!!

-Rising of the Planet of the Apes. MY RATING-10,000. Seriously. THEE. BEST. MOVIE. OF. THE. YEAR. Maybe even the best of the decade. So Oscar worthy. Go see the movie. Enough said.

-My strong urge to see 'The Help' movie. Has anyone seen it? Thoughts? Comments?

-Making homemade Rice Krispie Treats. They're soooo much better than the one's that you find in the store. Add extra butter for even more deliciousness!!

What was Awkward and/or Awesome for you this week?

Awkward and Awesome: I Guess That's Awesome...

AWKWARD

-The fact that I rarely ever enter blogger giveaways. I'm never lucky enough to win anything. And plus, its just a lot of red tape. Am I the only one who feels this way?

-Chicken Gizzards. Gizzards is such a funny word. Has anyone ever seen gizzards? They look hella awkward but they are good as ever!

AWESOME

-House hunting. Hoping to find something by the start of the new year.

-Midday quickies. I was very naughty today! LOL

-Watching the movie Arthur (while simultaneously writing this post) and laughing out loud by myself because the boo is working.

-Finding new cuties to stalk and follow. This weeks obsessions are these babes:

Jentine from MyEdit, Van C from TheClothesWeWear, Jennifer from BelleDeCouture, Mara from EccentricOwl

-Making homemade candy apples with my gorgeous niece!
I thought it was funny that the directions said 'cook syrup to the hard crack stage'...Ummm...WHAT!?
We ending up putting the apples in the fridge so that the candy could harden and a day later I peeked in the fridge to find all of the candy had slid off of the apples onto the pan that they were sitting on. Apparently, we failed to let the syrup cook to the 'hard crack stage'.  Have you tried making these and how did they turn out?

-Harris Teeter's mega double coupon events. I got all this swag for $11.05. I saved 76% ($35.53) here.

Savin' Maven

Ask me about Harris Teeter's 'mega double coupon events'!!

-The turnout for my DIY Manicure Party was so great that I've decided to do it all over again next month. Seeing as how there are various memes going on each day of the week, I don't want to compete or take participants away from any one blogger so I need your help picking a date. Would it be better to do it during the week or would you girls still participate if it were on a Saturday or Sunday? Gimme feedback dolls! Oh, and you can view the first Manicure Party here.

Did you experience anything Awkward and Awesome this week?
Please share.

Awkward and Awesome-Text Me On The Cell Phone

AWKWARD

-Sweltering heat. This summer is one of the hottest I've experienced. I don't even want to leave my house!

-Can't believe that's all the awkwards I have!

AWESOME

-Fixing my broken iPhone! I'm clumsy so I drop it ALL.THEE.TIME. Literally one week after I purchased it, I dropped it and the screen cracked. My company doesn't offer an insurance plan for the iPhone so I took my happy a$$ to Craigslist and searched 'fix broken iPhone screen'. Surprisingly, there were a couple of locations that popped up in my area. One of the locations happened to be at a cell phone kiosk in the middle of the local mall. They took my phone without a problem, told me to come back in an hour and for 50 bucks I would be all set. OMGeezers! That's awesome. Sure as hell beats paying upward of $400 for a totally new phone. I was all smiles. That is.....until I dropped the dang phone AGAIN, 4 months later. Here's what it looked like.

Broken iPhone Screen
Being the super frugal diva that I am, I was DE-termined not to pay $50 again so I walked around with my phone looking like this for about a good month. Trust the looks that I got were bad and the jokes were even worse. Finally, my coworker suggested that I search on eBay. She said that they sell the same tool kits that the repair guy used....Get this-the kit sells on eBay for roughly $8.....and they charged me $50-they're making a helluva profit! So I searched 'iPhone (insert your model here...ie-3G,3Gs,4G) replacement screen' on eBay and found the kit for exactly $7.53 with FREE shipping.
The kit contains 9 pieces:

iPhone Repair Kit
I found a repair tutorial on YouTube and did it myself. Looks just like new!

iPhone AFTER repair (oops, I missed a call)
What do you gals think?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem. Hopefully this will be helpful to some, if not all of you. I'm all about saving a dollar!

****Don't forget to get your pretty manicures ready! I'm hosting a DIY Manicure Party on August 12 for FBFF. I would love to see you link up!*****

Awkward and Awesome: It's Not All In Vain

AWKWARD

-The fact that it's still in the 90-something degrees outside at 11PM. WTH!?

-Having an 8AM class on Saturday mornings. Why me!? I just want to sleep. Who in their right mind would do some foolishness like this!?

-Not being in DC this weekend. My girls are gone. My boo is gone. And I know that they are having loads of fun. Ughhh, I'm jealous.

-Seeing people that I know in the thrift store. That bothers me because they try to hold conversations and stuff when I really don't feel like it. I just want to get to the next aisle. Please and Thank You!

AWESOME

-Being featured on DistinctStyleInnovation for this week's Wear*It Wednesday segment. Check out how we rock our wedges and also read about how you can be featured in upcoming posts.

-Being kissed on the forehead by my favorite guy. That makes me feel sooo giddy inside!

-A preview of my DIY manicure. Get your pretty manicures ready ladies because in 2 weeks, on August 12, I will be hosting FBFF- a collaborative forum initially started by Katy from ModlyChic. On that very day, I would love for each and every one of  you to link up and share your DIY manicures with me. Pretty please! I've seen some pretty creative ideas floating around the 'net thus far so I wanna see what 'cha got!

DIY Manicure

-Patiently awaiting LaurieAnn Gibson's 'Born To Dance' sitcom that premieres on BET next Tuesday. I love reality dance shows-not as much as I love Project Runway though.

-Being featured on this week's  Links a la Mode roundup on the IndependentFashionBloggers site. To some this may be minuscule but it's a huge accomplishment for me. It keeps me grounded and inspires me to press on. I love to write and this just lets me know that my efforts are not in vain.

Awkward and Awesome: I'm Feeling Good...This is The Best Week of My Life

AWKWARD

-Don't rude people bother you?

-Being stuck in the house on a Friday doing homework. What type of crap is that?

-DMV-the Department of Motor Vehicles. I went to get my license renewed this week and they told me that I had to have a birth certificate to prove that I'm a US citizen. C'mon....are you serious. Like WTF!? Doesn't my 'soon to expire' license do a good enough job of proving that I'm a freaking resident. That's a load of bull.

-Going back to DMV after a 3 day long search for my birth certificate only for them to tell me that my license renewal would be $32! Confuse me...WHAT!? Since when...who approved this...for WHHYY? I remember when things like this used to be free. My goodness, by the time I have kids old enough to drive, there's gonna be an entry fee just to get into the damn DMV!
How do you feel about the DMV in your hometown?

-Men. And how they are sometimesmost times more moody than us. Ugghhh, the nerve of them to call us emotional.

Tattoos being unacceptable within the work environment. (Extensive details to follow in a later post)

AWESOME

-Having an interview on Monday. Getting a call back on Tuesday. Signing my new contract on Wednesday. This has to be thee best week of my life. God is soooo good.

-My bestie is in town. Ahhhhhh....Can't wait for a shopping spree! Yayyy!!!

-Crackle nail polish is the ish. How many of you agree? I keep looking down at my nails in complete awe of the added effect of the 'crackle'!

-Being featured on NoGuiltFashion for Danie's What They Wore Wednesday segment. Check out how we rocked our rompers and jumpsuits.

-And theeennnn finding out that my post was featured on this week's Links a la Mode roundup over at IFB. I'm hella excited:

Style is what you make it. We are all different and beautiful in our own ways. Many of us have different techniques to display how we want to present ourselves. Some people are very "structured" "prim and proper" and live by a color scheme while others go wild with mixing patterns and have the "unpolished" and "don't care" look. It's all about where you get your inspiration from and your personality in general.

Here are some classic quotes on style:

  • "Fashion fades, style is eternal." -YSL
  • "Fashion is not something that exist only in dresses. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." -Coco Chanel
  • "'Style' is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style." -John Fairchild
What's your favorite style quote?

Awkward and Awesome: Sequins and Pearls and Lots of Pretty Girls...

AWKWARD

-So I was thrifting the other day and I picked up an AWESOME vintage sequined shirt. I have no idea what I will wear it with but it immediately caught my eye so I put it in my basket. I went to the mirror to try on my picks and I noticed this lady eyeing my sequins. She walked by at least 3 times. On the fourth time she walked by and commented about how gorgeous it was. I politely smiled and kept it moving. On the fifth time she walked by, she actually picked my sequins up, asked what size it was, and had the audacity to ask me if I was gonna buy it. Ummm, hell yeah I'm buying it-get your paws off lady!! And even if I was previously undecided about buying it before you came along, I'm definitely buying it now-just because you're on my nerves. Uggghhhh!

-The beau and I have turned into the modern day Siskel and Ebert. We are avid kiosk-ers. We rent at least one movie a week and our 'thing' is to give it a rating and discuss it after we've watched it. I know, I know, we're total nerds. But that's why I love him-because his nerdiness matches mine!
Movie of the Week: The Dilemma/Our Rating: B
AWESOME

-Sleeping in and spending the day with the beau-doing absolutely nothing!

-I love finding new cuties to follow and read about and I would love for you to step into my world-if only for just one day. I'm looking for two creative, frugal, thrifty and shameless bloggers to feature for the month of August. You can post about a topic of your choice so long as it pertains to being thrifty. I know it's early but just wanted to put the word out there. Shoot me an email at thriftyandshameless@gmail.com.

-This super fantastic article I found about getting started with organizing your closet space:

My closet needs a MAJOR redo and I need your help. If you have any tips, please share. I'm also asking that you post your organized closet pics on my FB page. This is a dire emergency people. My closet is beginning to look like a mini boutique.

-Oh yeah...speaking of my FB page---LIKE ME by CLICKING HERE!!

-Michelle Obama-she's THEE greatest First Lady-ever!

-I've finally started using the 'share' button. You know the one at the bottom of everyone's post that lets you share your favorite reads on your Twitter and FB pages? Yeah, that one. Well, I've finally gotten wind of it and I've been 'sharing' like crazy. This way all of my friends who don't read the same blogs as me can now partake in some of the awesomeness that I read each day.

-New peeps I'm following: EFBGirls, ByAnika, and VerySmartBrothas. GREATNESS!!

-Do you know any troops who are deployed right now? Even if not, I have a fun, easy, and FREE way for you to express your appreciation for them on Independence Day. TinyPrints is sponsoring this sweet deal-all you have to do is go to their Facebook page and 'Like' them for details about exactly where to send your card.  I've already ordered mine. Will you order one?

How has your week been? Share some of your Awkward and Awesome moments with me...

Awkward and Awesome: I Just Wanna Say..I Haven't Been Away..I'm Still Right Here...

AWKWARD

-The number of times I've thought about shutting my blog down and calling it quits!

-The overwhelming feeling I get from trying to write content that everyone will enjoy.

-Comparing the number of followers I have with that of others who just started blogging-like yesterday! It's discouraging.

-It's almost my Bday and I don't have anything planned yet! Gurrrllll, get it together!

-The fact that Kristina from PrettyShinySparkly is hosting the Neon/Neutral edition of BloggersDoItBetter and I don't have an outfit picked out!

-I didn't participate in the lace craze on EverybodyEverywear on Tuesday. I'm feeling so out of the loop.

-I haven't done an outfit post in FOREVER!

-It's cookout season. I loooovvee to eat! This is my favorite time of the year because I don't have to worry about cooking a lot. I just get to go plates at each cookout that I attend and I make it work for me!

-Me and the BF are having date night on Friday. Dinner and a movie. We really want to see Bad Teacher but it doesn't come out until next weekend so we are gonna see The Hangover 2. Uggh! We really enjoyed the first one but I've heard mixed reviews about this one. Has anyone seen it and if so please divulge your opinion....PLEASE! Other movie suggestions are also welcome.

Share something Awkward and Awesome with me...PLEASE!!!

Awkward and Awesome: No One On the Corner Got Swagga Like...Muah!!

AWKWARD

-I think the person who oversees me (I hate the word boss) is trying to take advantage of me. Sure she has end-of-the-year paperwork that needs to be completed but hell...I have things to do as well. Things like homework, cutting coupons, and blogging of course. Sheesh. Don't discount the things that I have to do just because you're 'in the weeds'! And don't pass off all of your other tedious work off on me either. If you don't wanna do it, what makes you think I wanna do it!!!

-It's hot as fishgrease outside!!!

-That's all the awkwards I have....what the hell!!

-Okay, maybe not!

-Raising the roof? Does anyone still do that?

AWESOME

-MORE AWESOMENESS. If you're an avid movie go-er like me then you will LOVE this deal. LivingSocial is partnering with Fandango to offer 2 movie tickets for $9. That's less than the price of ONE!! Syd from TheDaybook

-Swagbucks! No one on the corner got swagga like mine! LOL! Need I say more? They have totally replaced my google search engine. The incentive is that you earn points that you can use to buy cool gifts. That's FREE money y'all. And y'all know I'm all about some free swag! I have only been 'swagging' for a little over 2 months and I've accumulated enough points to earn a $15 Amazon gift card. My goal is to save all of my points until Black Friday so that I may do my Christmas shopping without coming out of pocket. Here's the deal: you earn points from doing simple things like searching, commenting, and tweeting about #swagbucks. You can get more info here and if you register today with this code, you start off with 30 points.

-Pinterest! I'm hooked! I'm always surfing the net and reading other blogs. Many of which I gain inspiration from. In fact, I have created several folders on my desktop that hold inspirational pictures. They are labeled according to my various interests-outfits, DIY crafts, food, whatever! Theeennn, I found out about Pinterest! A place where you can create and store all of your inspirations-RIGHT THERE. You can like and even comment on other inspiration boards much like you would on Facebook.  I'm stoked and addicted. Registration is by invite only so you can go here to request an invite.

-I've been asked to do a site review of a huge couponing website. Woot, woot! (Raising the roof-apparently I still raise the roof!) I'm so looking forward to this!

-I will be doing my very first feature on Wednesday for Word On the Street. If you like thrifting as much as I do this will be a big one...Stay tuned!

-My new camera came. Yay! As soon as I get it all set up, I will be posting some pics! No more iPhone mirror shots! Double Yay!!

-New pretties that I found while perusing through the Prep Look edition of PrettyShinySparklys Bloggers Do It Better Challenge:

My Favorite Preps

Kasey from StyleMeKasey, Eboni from TheFashionistaNextDoor, and Ashleigh from LittleGirlBigWorld. (Well, Eboni isn't new, I've been following her for a while now-but her version of preppy happened to be one of my faves). I love 'em and so should you. Go check 'em out!

What are your Awkward and Awesome's for this week?
Please share...

Awkward and Awesome: I Encourage You To Try It....

 AWKWARD

-I got to the bottom of my Capt. Crunch ceral box today....so I added Apple Jacks to it to make a full bowl! YUMMM!!!

-Why is it that some of the more popular bloggers don't participate in community -blog- events and challenges (ie-Bloggers Do It Better, Everybody Everywear)? Do they think that they are better than us or do they just not have the time to devote to networking with other bloggers!? I mean I'm curious as hell.  Maybe when I reach 'superblog' status, I will comprehend that one a little better.

-I wore black with brown today and, well....let's just say that I won't do it again. I hates it honey! Have you ever rocked these two colors together? How did it turn out?

-I mentioned before how much I despise communal restrooms. But what I hate even more is the people who outright refuse to knock on the bathroom door before they pull on the door handle. Granted, I always lock the door behind me but just what if I forget one day....and then here comes one of those people who don't knock. I wonder if they will rethink their decision to knock after they walk in on someone mid-wipe!!

AWESOME

-If you're an avid Redboxer like me, they are offering some sweet deals for the next 7 days. Just text 'DEALS' to 727272. On Monday, they offered a FREE rental and Tuesday was half off . Today they are offering 50% off a one night rental. TEXT NOW!!

Redbox Deals
-If you're a follower, you know how much I looooveee thrifting. Weeellllll, I was featured on ColorBlind a couple of weeks ago as the 'Thrifters Anonymous Thrifter of the Week'. Shana hosts this segment once a week for all of us thrifters to share our finds. She's also super fly and frugalicious and I'm hoping to feature her for an upcoming 'Word on the Street Wednesday' segment. You can read my feature and visit Shana here.

You can participate too!
-I finally finished visiting the participants from the Bloggers Do It Better-White Out challenge hosted by Kristina of PrettyShinySparkly. I found 3 more new divas to add to my list of favorites:

Woah White Out!

Rocquelle from ConsiderMeLovely,  Gab from FashionBeautyInsight, and BJones. You should visit them too! They're all gorg!!

-Ok, so I am waaayyyyy late on this Savin' Maven Monday roundup ...sorry to those of you who look forward to seeing my deals each week. Here are the awesome deals that I found last week.
Savin' Maven (Food Lion)
Food Lion was offering those huge bottles of salad dressing for $.99 and the Kellogg's cereals and Lays chips were all B1G1 FREE! Theeennn, Food Lion was giving out $5 off $25 coupons so I spent
 $7.59 here.

Savin' Maven (Rite Aid #1)
This was the GREATEST trip ever!!! Rite Aid had awesome deals last week. The lotions, soaps, and deodorants were all B1G1 50% off. The cosmetics were B1G1 FREE and the pads and Tylenol Precise cream were all FREE after I used my coupons. I spent a total of
$15.16 on the 40 items pictured. That's
an average of $.38/item.

Savin' Maven (Rite Aid #2)
Rite Aid sales were so great that I made a second trip. This time I spent $4.96 (the 2 Reese cups are not pictured-I think I must've eaten them-ooops)! I also received $13 worth of Register Rewards to use towards my next Rite Aid trip. YAY!!

Savin' Maven (Target)
Target had lots of things on clearance last week-including some of their leftover spring gift bags and tissue papers. If you're lucky enough to have a decent Target in your area, you may be able to find some good markdowns. Here, I spent $5.65. Most of the items cost little or nothing after I used my coupons.

Savin' Maven (CVS)
My last stop was at CVS. I only stopped here because CoverGirl was offering a $3 extra care reward with the purchase of $10 worth of product. I spent $3.35 here after coupons.

So altogether last week, my items totaled $229.26
I spent $36.71 out of pocket
(after coupons, discounts, and sales)
For a total savings of $192.55 (84% savings)

What can I say....shopping....(and couponing in particular) is addictive! I encourage you to try it!!!
What kind of awesome.....or awkward things did you experience this week?

I'm So Appalled....Spalding Ball!!!

AWKWARD

-So as I was visiting other bloggers sites, I came across the blog of a female who was clearly pissed about the fact that she almost had to fight another lady for coupon inserts at the newspaper box last Sunday. I was intrigued by this post and shocked at how ridiculous people are beginning to be over these little pieces of paper. Until I read this:
Sure enough we both pull up to the box and the black bitch jumps out and starts wrapping her arms around the whole pile of papers.....Now, I'm not really that threatening of a person, I'm short and petite - compared to this black momma...... As I drove away from the encounter, I wondered what the bitch was going to do with twenty sets of inserts, was she a reseller? Could be since she didn't strike me as being bright enough to know how to actually use that many coupons....Anyway, I think whatever her motivation she looked like she probably needs the money more than me.
I was livid and spent the rest of my afternoon pondering on whether or not to leave a comment letting her know how I felt or just leave it alone and let her think that it is okay to say things like this and pass judgement on people in this way. Needless to say, I decided to swallow my pride and go back to her blog to leave her my thoughts. Here's my response:
Good day. I'm visiting from a blog hop and while I totally understand your frustration, I must say that I'm a little confused as to why her race had to be an issue? Why couldn't she just be a bitch!? Then to imply that she's not 'smart enough to know how to use that many coupons'!!! Uggghhh!!! I'm am a black woman, a very intelligent one, in fact one who knows how to and uses the hell out of TONS of coupons. I am a regular visitor to your blog and not sure whether to come back because I feel a little offended as would any other black woman who reads this post. You are definitely entitled to your opinion because this is YOUR blog but maybe just be a little more sensitive to the feelings of your 'black' readers. Hope you have better luck this Sunday at the newspaper box.
That's more than enough 'awkward' for the whole week, ya think?

AWESOME

-I received 2 scholarships from my school last semester....a special 'gala' was held for us on campus last night. Everything was soooo gorgeous and the food was yummy. I was actually seated at the table with the Provost and the several other members of the Education Foundation who upon conversing with them they told me that my program (Funeral Services) will be receiving some extra money in the near future and they would make sure I was the first one to know about it when it comes into fruition. Ahhh....all those years of being called a nerd (and thinking I was weird for it) have finally started to pay off-TREMENDOUSLY!!!

Silly me didn't take a picture of my 'fit though.

- SWAGBUCKS. Yes, it is real. And it's soooo easy. You get awarded swagbucks to do things you would  normally do on the net like search, participate in polls, play games, and watch videos. Now that I'm hip to swagbucks, I hardly ever use google anymore. For every 450 'bucks' you accumulate you can cash in and get a $5 Amazon gift card. Orrrr, you can save all of your 'bucks' and cash them in at once. One of my blogger friends that I visited yesterday said that she had just cashed her bucks in to get a Kindle. I personally plan to let my 'bucks' stack and cash them in to use for Christmas shopping. I just joined about a month ago and I am already close to having enough points to get a second gift card. What's better than free money? Annnddd, you get bonus 30 points just for signing up. Click here to learn more and/or sign up.

-The crazy, sexy, and cool chics that I found while browsing through the entrants of  PrettyShinySparkly's Bloggers Do It Better Challenge. Even if you don't join the challenge, you should at least take a glance at some of these ladies. Some of my faves are ShopNowSaveLater, FlorDeMariaFashion, and NanysKlozet.

Colorblocking Beauties
-Mother's Day is coming up. Although, I always tell my mom how much she means to me,  I love that I have a whole day to dedicate and profess my undying love for my mommy (the best mom in the world). I also love that TinyPrints posted codes for free cards on their Facebook page-3 days in a row. I totally took advantage and used all three code to get cards-one for Mom, one for Sisah, and one for G-ma. I will post them and share them with you once I receive them in the mail. What are you doing for your Mother this year?

-As I was checking my email the other day, I noticed an invite to volunteer some events for  Boston Fashion Week. Being as though I live hours away from Boston, I'm extending the invite to anyone who may be interested. Just comment with your name and email and I will forward the the information along. You have to get in on this ASAP as I believe it's starting next week.

-I began a 'Spring Break Beauty' giveaway on Monday and I would loovvve for you to enter. It's just a little something to say thanks for following me and my little 'ole blog. Click here to find out the details.

-It's CINCO DE MAYO and I'm ready for some margarita's!!!!!!  How are you celebrating today?

What kind of awkward and awesome moments did you have this week?
