Friday Favorites: Vol #20

TGIF!!!

Let me say it AGAIN!!

TGIF!!!

I'm so ready for the weekend-a long one at that.

This week has been really trying with class and work starting again. I'm going to try to use the strategy of scheduling my posts on Sunday evenings but we shall see how great that works.

Just one thing for this week's addition of Friday Favorites...

THIS HAPPENED...

Little 'ole me received a blog award.

It's such an honor-well to me it is-to be recognized among my tiny circle of virtual friends so a huge THANK YOU goes out to LV from Food Fashion and Flow for nominating me for this lovely award.

Now, here's the fun part:

THE RULES

1. Nominate 15 bloggers who are relatively new to blogging.

2. Let the nominated bloggers know that they have been nominated.

3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.

4. Thank the blogger who has nominated you.

5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your post.

So here are my nominations, in no particular order:

Redheaded Daybook
Words and Wardrobes
This Vintage Grove
Thriftanista In the City
High Heels and Good Meals
Newly Loved
Chioma's Evolution of Style
Nic's Picks
Not Dressed As a Lamb

(now I have to figure out a way to let these lovely ladies know how much I love their blogs and that they've been nominated as a result of my undying love for them)

NEXT

are 7 random facts about myself...

Hmmm...

1. I'm a huge bookworm.
2. I graduated from a private college.
3. I write music-hip hop and R & B in particular.
4.  I visit Target at least twice a week.
5. I have an obsessive personality.
6. I'm extremely introverted but also extremely adventurous.
7. I have yet to attend a blogger conference/event!!!

That's it my loves. I can't wait to see what lovely blogs you gals nominate. That's at least 150 new blogger friends to visit if all of you nominate different people. I can't wait!!

Enjoy your weekend!

Country Bumpkin...

Happy Wednesday my loves.

We have reached the middle of the week. YESSSS!!!

I wonder if you all are as ready for the weekend as I am!?

My outfit post today was inspired by my new found love of pattern mixing. Last month my blogger friend Marion over at MarionBerry Style got a few bloggers together for a 'pattern mixing challenge' and I couldn't have been more excited. My first attempt at the trend is recapped in this post. Today I wanted to try something a little more casual and laid back

I feel like a
country bumpkin
in this checkered shirt but I had to have it when I saw it-especially for only one buck!!

Checkered Shirt-Thrifted
Because it fit a little on the large side, I decided to do this little tie-front thingy that everyone has been so crazy about this summer.

I wanted to do some really short cut-offs but instead I paired it with these oh so comfy Gap dungarees that I DIY'd.

Shorts-Thrifted & DIY'd

I love the distressed look of these thrifted babies.

That was $1 well spent!!!

One thing I noticed when comparing my looks is that the base of both 'pattern mixed' looks happens to be a striped shirt.

Aren't stripes so easy to pair with other patterns?

I wanted subtle accessories to go with this look so I topped it off with a simple, yet expressive statement necklace.

Marion is hosting another challenge this month and the theme is statement necklaces. Go link up here or stop by and visit to see how some of her other blogger friends rock their statements.

How do you like to style your statement pieces?

I'll be waiting to hear from you.

Trendy Tuesday: Militant Chic

 Happy Tuesday my loves!!

I hope every one's day is off to a great start.

How many of you are ready for fall?

I know I sure am. I'm loving all of the new fall trends.

Especially this whole 'military-esque' look.

The neutral color allows for these pieces to be paired with some of the boldest hues of the season-especially mustard and red.

YUMMY!!!

Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Shoe Organization

Happy Monday my loves!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend. It rained a lot in my area so I was inside a majority of the weekend. That allowed me to catch up on the DIY project that I'm featuring today. I've been wanting to do this for some time now but I wanted to be sure that I had all of the required items before I got started.

Now...to say that I am a shoe lover is a complete understatement. Sometimes I believe that shoes run my life.

Well, maybe that's somewhat of an exaggeration.

But I will honestly say that they run my wardrobe. I center most of my looks around my shoes. And obviously if you have a huge selection of clothes, then you pretty much need an equal amount of shoes to match, right!?

This is where you agree with me ladies!!

Mmmmkay!!!

With that being said-I literally have shoes EH-VAH-RE-WHERE! What makes it so bad for me is that alot of the shoes that I've recently purchased have come without a box-especially the ones from Target. Target is good for selling a shoe without the box.

This is when operation organization gets put into place. I originally got the idea to put my shoes in labeled boxes some time ago when I saw Kimora Lee Simmons' walk-in closet on some TV show. There is also a good example found here.

Enough of the small talk though. Let's get started.

Here's what you'll need.

**stackable organizers (or your closet will do depending on the size)
**pictures of shoes
**storage containers
**tape (or glue-whichever you prefer)

STEP 1: Assemble your organizers. I found these organizers at Target sometime last year. When I saw that they had gone down to $3.50, I grabbed 4 of them. Now they have these same organizers for regular price this year. Once the back-to-school craze is over, they may go back on clearance so be on the lookout.

I used coupons and various sales to get the pictures of my shoes printed for FREE at Target.

These shoe containers were purchased from the Dollar Tree, which by the way have begun accepting manufacturers coupons. I counted out exactly how many storage containers would fit on my shelves and I went from there.

STEP 2-Place a picture of the corresponding shoe on the front of the storage container by using tape or glue. You may have to cut your picture a tad bit so that the edges don't hang off.

That's it!

2 easy steps.

Here's what one row looks like...

And here's what several rows look like...

(The bottom rows are empty because I realized that some of the shoes that I snapped pictures of were too  large to fit into the containers but that should be an easy fix.)

I love organized spaces.

How about you ladies?
Is this something you think you would try?

I can't wait to hear from you.
Thanks for reading.

Nautical Swag...

Thankfully it's Thursday!!

I'm late, yet again!

But this makes two outfit posts in a row so I would say that I'm doing pretty darn swell.

If you've been reading for the past couple of weeks, then you are totally aware of my new obsession with this whole nautical swag.

Yeah, so this is what came out of my closet...

In an effort to purge my closet and make room for fall items, I've been dressing myself in whatever my hands land on. But if I keep picking out items that I love then this whole closet purging process is going to soon be null and void. Then I'm gonna be forced to enlist the help of some closet raiders. That would cost money and you all know...

I'm not about that life!

But what I am about is this...

$8 Bermuda shorts...

Shorts-NY&Co
$4 red watches...

Watch-Target
$6 nautical tees....

Tee-Plato's
and $9 nude pumps

Pumps-Target
oohhhh....and thrifted belts!!!

BOW!!!

Closet purge on hold until further notice because I'm keeping all of this!

Have you ever purged your closet?

Did you find yourself wanting to keep every item that you pulled out?

I do!!

Thanks for reading my loves!

An Aide for Closet Purging...

Happy Hump Day my loves!

I hope every one's day is going great thus far.

As I stated yesterday's post, I'm doing a crappy job at getting my posts up in a timely manner. I have every intention of scheduling them but then, in true attention deficit fashion, I get sidetracked and end up struggling to get posts published in the AM.

Better late than never though, right!?

Anyhow this is an outfit that I wore on one of my many outings with the dude.

Bustier-TJ Maxx
I've always been a fan of bustiers but I never thought that I had enough boobage to fill one out until I found this precious little floral baby at TJ Maxx a couple of years ago.

Notice I said a couple of years ago-I'm so terrible at purging my closet. I have no idea what I have because I keep on purchasing more things. I swear I need to join a
Shopper's Anonymous
rehab type of group thingy.

These 'biker-esque' skinnies have been in my closet for a number of years also. I purchased them during a clearance sale at New York and Company. Ask me why I'm just now wearing them 2 years later....

And I tell you no lie-

I can't answer that

I just can't!!!

Skinnies-NY&Co.
Most times I get so overwhelmed with finding something to wear that I tend to just go for the most comfortable thing in my closet-and that's almost always something I've worn over and over again.

Here recently I had to put my foot down and stop myself. I've finally convinced myself that I just can't continue to shop if I haven't even worn the things that are already hanging in my closet. There's no way possible I would be able to fit everything.

So I said:

"Self, there's no way in hell that you can convince yourself to stop shopping, soooo you are just gonna have to rip the tags off of those pants, that bustier, and the bolero and wear them out. If you find that you don't like how they look or feel, only then will you know whether or not to get rid of it"

So that's what I've been doing. I've been using these outfit posts as an aide for closet purging.

And I think I will keep this outfit in it's entirety.

Especially this little bolero. It's so sexy to me. I purchased it from Plato's during their 50% off sale so it was only 6 bucks!

Bolero-Plato's
I love it's versatility-mainly for the fact that it kept me warm in the restaurant during date night without compromising my whole outfit.

What are the most versatile pieces in your closet and why?

Do share...

And again...thanks for reading.
Love you to pieces!!

Trendy Tuesday: Loafer Madness

Hey loves!!

I know I'm hella late but this is what running errands gets you! I've been sooo horrible at scheduling posts lately.

Anyhow, it's my favorite day of the blog week and this week I'm loving some loafers for
Trendy Tuesday!

How many of you have jumped on the 'loafer bandwagon'?

Let me tell you....I have acquired at least 4 pair in the last month or so. I do have a few older styles but never did I ever think that they would become such a huge trend. It's a good thing I didn't get rid of them.

These babies are likely to be this fall's greatest hit. I personally love the comfort and versatility of them.

Loafer Madness...

With so many great styles, how do you choose just one pair!?

And when you do choose, how do prefer to wear them?

Dressed up or down?

I can't wait to hear your responses.

Thanks for reading!

Friday Favorites: Vol #19

TGIF my loves!

Another week down. I'm pretty excited for the weekend as I will be spending time with some of my old classmates from high school. I'm also planning to spend time with my goddaughter and my bestie before they leave town for a week, and of course I'm going to spend some time with the dude.

The last couple of weeks have been pretty interesting for me-here's a recap...

NEW items added to my ebay site...Please email thriftyandshameless@gmail.com if you're interested or you can visit my site here

NEW Satin Bow Pumps Size 8

My grocery haul from Harris Teeter's Super Double Coupon event
Total before coupons and discounts ---> $160.11

Homemade garden salad-for those days when I want to eat healthy...

Date night with my favorite guy (follow me on instagram --> @sherockwell for more date night updates). I love taking pics of our shoes. Maybe one day he will show his face on the blog.

Now reading Decoded by Jay-Z. I may just be his biggest fan. This book is so interesting as it decodes the lyrics to some of his most intricate songs. I'm debating on whether I should do a '10 Things I Learned About Jay-Z' post. Hmmmm??

Leopard capris-ummm YES!!! I'm totally obsessed with leopard print. I looovvee these because they fit like jogging pants so I can dress them up or down and still be comfy!

Fall pattern mixing inspiration from Target.

I finally found a nail stamping kit that didn't cost me a ton of money. $6.99 at Ross. DIY manicures here I come!

I have been eyeing this skirt from Target for well over 2 months now. They finally marked it down and I snatched it with the quickness. I have so many ideas for it already!

New mag swag. OK seriously, I have a huge pile of unread magazines that I need to get working on. I'm missing out on all types of inspiration by just letting them sit in my living room. I wish someone would come and help me read them.

That's it dolls-my Friday Favorites.
What were some of your favorite things from this week?

Do share.

Thanks a bunch for reading!
