Colored Tights and Lots of Layers...

Hey my loves....

I hope everyone is off to an awesome start today. My day actually took a great turn when I received a code for a FREE Redbox rental for tonight. That means QT with my honey which is always a great thing.

Yet another great thing in my opinion happens to be these colored tights. I freaking love them.

I usually reserve my tights to be layered underneath work pants during those cold, winter days, however, since I get a kick out of showing off my colored and patterned tights, I pair them with cut offs and/or skirts when the weather permits.

I purchased these shorts off season at Aeropostale last year for $5.99. I really like the effect of layering the tights with the shorts and knee high socks.

It allows me to still be stylish AND comfortable without freezing my buns off.

Since I was striving for a semi-preppy look I added this thrifted Zara blazer

I love it's corduroy texture too-perfect for layering.

When I felt myself getting too warm, I removed the blazer and I was left with this...

Pretty plaid and pearls!!

In my opinion, this is the perfect combination for those days when I wanna dress up without feeling like I'm overdoing it.

Just Me And Proenza...

It's Thursday. YES!!!

This week has been sooo dreary that I literally can't take it anymore. It has rained everyday since Saturday and I'm sick of it! I really wish it would just snow already. Tonight would be great! Then I would have an extra long weekend!

Anyhow, this weekend will be much like that of last weekend-full of DIY projects and shop updates. Last weekend, I worked on these hand crafted picture frames. This go round I want to work on making some red flare leg pants. Stay tuned to see how that project turns out.

The rest of my time will be spent planning my trip to the Presidential Inauguration on Monday. I'm super excited about that!

I'm also super excited that I had the chance to score this Proenza Schouler sweatshirt on clearance from Target while Neiman Marcus was featuring their holiday line there.

While searching through my wardrobe, I noticed that not only was my sweater collection fairly slim, but that I owned absolutely NO sweatshirts-only hoodies that need to be replaced because they are now years and years old.

I had been eyeing this sweatshirt since the line debuted so I was super excited when it finally got marked down to 70% off.

Because I don't do full price honey-no way, no how! Not if I can help it.

Every piece of this outfit was purchased on clearance or at a rock bottom redline price.

Chambray-NY&Co

Even down to the accessories. The watch was 50% off and the ring was $5.99 at NY & Co.

And this BCBG bracelet was also $5.99 at Dillards.

The shorts were all of $2 from Gap during one of their end of season clearance sales...

And oh yeah, back to the matter at hand-THE SWEATSHIRT! I got it for $8.98 as opposed to $30. I'm also in love with the fact that it can be dressed down like I've done with this look or it can be dressed up with some cute leather pants and sparkly heels. It's so versatile. I love great buys; they make me giddy.

Can't you tell that I'm happy!!!???

I'm so glad that I got it when I did because it was perfect for a casual lunch date with my girlfriend.

Now, if only I can continue to find great sweatshirts to add to my collection my life would be complete.

Did you get the chance to shop at Target during their huge holiday clearance sale?
If so, what did you score?

I can't wait to hear from you.

Country Bumpkin...

Happy Wednesday my loves.

We have reached the middle of the week. YESSSS!!!

I wonder if you all are as ready for the weekend as I am!?

My outfit post today was inspired by my new found love of pattern mixing. Last month my blogger friend Marion over at MarionBerry Style got a few bloggers together for a 'pattern mixing challenge' and I couldn't have been more excited. My first attempt at the trend is recapped in this post. Today I wanted to try something a little more casual and laid back

I feel like a
country bumpkin
in this checkered shirt but I had to have it when I saw it-especially for only one buck!!

Checkered Shirt-Thrifted
Because it fit a little on the large side, I decided to do this little tie-front thingy that everyone has been so crazy about this summer.

I wanted to do some really short cut-offs but instead I paired it with these oh so comfy Gap dungarees that I DIY'd.

Shorts-Thrifted & DIY'd

I love the distressed look of these thrifted babies.

That was $1 well spent!!!

One thing I noticed when comparing my looks is that the base of both 'pattern mixed' looks happens to be a striped shirt.

Aren't stripes so easy to pair with other patterns?

I wanted subtle accessories to go with this look so I topped it off with a simple, yet expressive statement necklace.

Marion is hosting another challenge this month and the theme is statement necklaces. Go link up here or stop by and visit to see how some of her other blogger friends rock their statements.

How do you like to style your statement pieces?

I'll be waiting to hear from you.

Keep It Simple...

Happy Thursday my loves.

Or should I say-TGIT!!!

Thank Goodness It's Thursday. During the summer, Thursday marks the end of the work week for me. I'm totally excited about that. I hope every one's day has gotten off to a splenderific start! Mine has definitely started on the right foot because I was able to wake up next to 'the dude' this morning. He makes me smile so much!

Gasp! I'm being wayyy too sentimental here. I need to toughen up because you all did NOT come here to hear about my mushy love life.

**snaps out of it**

Okay, so let's talk about how comfortable outfits like this make me...

Thrifted Belt and Purse
I love that I can chill in it without feeling too dressed up and I can even wear it on a casual date without feeling underdressed.

I feel like overall I'm a pretty simple chic. I love classic pieces, bold colors, cute T-shirts, and pretty shoes. And most of all-comfort and versatility! What girl doesn't, right!?

I have noticed though since I began blogging a year and a half ago, that I tend to lean more towards neutral colors as opposed to bold and bright. As Tim Gunn would put it-'I stay safe'!

I love mixing different pops of color here and there but for the most part, I am pretty....well, safe! I admire the ability of other bloggers who are able to mix patterns and wear awesomely colorblocked outfits. Though I have a ton of color in my wardrobe, I'm just not able to go out everyday like I'm ripping the runway-especially not when I'm just going to run errands. So I keep it minimally simple.

Cargos-GAP
Sometimes I feel as if my 'fits are a little too boring. Take this outfit for instance...

Wedges-Platos
In the grand scheme of things, there's really not much that stands out about it. It's just a simple T-shirt, rolled up cargo's, and studded wedges. Nothing to run home and tell mom about.

But there is something special about it in my eyes-it's classic, it's unexpected, and most of all it's ME-safe, simple, and real!!

Do you ever feel like your 'fits are too 'safe and simple' to blog about?

What's the definition of 'edge' in your eyes?

Savin' Maven Monday: Grab Bag Sale

Hello and Happy Monday lovelies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was pretty great. I spent time with my amazing family on Friday and I spent all day Saturday with the dude (swoon). I attended church on Sunday, spent more time with the dude and now I'm back here for Savin' Maven Monday.

On Friday, I showed you guys this bag from Plato's Closet...

Well, a couple of weeks ago they had a huge 'grab bag' sale.

What exactly is a grab bag sale,  you ask?

It's a shopaholics dream come true. I tell you!!! When you enter the store,  you get a bag (or as many bags as you would like) and you will get whatever you fit into that bag for only $15!!!

Catch #1: The bag can only be filled with clearance items-that was cool because the lovely workers at Plato's had the clearance items all sectioned off in the front of the store.

Catch #2: The bag just might've been smaller than my pinky toe! No seriously...I don't know the dimensions of the bag but it was similar to a small Hallmark shopping bag or one of the the small bags that they give you at Bath & Body Works when you purchase travel items.

Soooo, my mind immediately kicked into overdrive. I had to devise a plan. I will pick out anything that catches my eye and sort later. I arrived at the store at 9AM (opening time was 10AM) so I had my route pretty much figured out.

When the doors opened, I asked for two bags and went to work. In the end, I only used one of those bags. Here's what I was able to tuck, roll, and fold all into one mini sized shopping bag for $15...

2 jackets

(Forever XXI/H&M)
3 body-con skirts

(TJ Maxx/American Apparel/TJ Maxx)
2 pencil skirts

(Forever XXI/Express)
4 flirty skirts

(Old Navy/Forever XXI)
3 dresses

(H&M/Divided/Gap)
3 shirts

(Charlotte Rousse/Aeropostale/??)
AND

1 pair of shorts
(Ann Taylor)
Since I didn't try the items on, some of them will be going because I can't fit them. Either way, I ended up with 18 gently used-some even brand new-items.

My original total was $211.50 and I got all of this for only $15.75!!!

Talk about a major score. I LIVE for sales like these!!!

What do you think?
I would love for you to share one of your greatest shopping trips with me.

Oh, by the way, thanks for reading!
It means a ton!
XOXOXOXOXO
