I See Your True Colors...And That's Why I Love You...

It snowed and I'm pissed! Not even an inch of freaking snow and they cancelled work! Not that I didn't need the day off, it's just that I don't wanna make it up. I wonder if you can call out on 'makeup' days?  Who the hell came up with 'makeup' days anyway? They should be demoted for such foolishness! I had my outfit all picked out too-so I'll just run some errands in it. It was really a toss up because I figured 'hey it's Friday and I kinda wanna be comfortable' but then I decided 'nah what the hell, it's Friday and I'm feeling a little festive' so I leaned a little towards the colorful side.  And don't you know that today's FBFF topic is all about some COLOR! This is all to perfect timing.

Jacket-Thrifted/Blouse-GAP/Khakis-Old Navy/Belt-Thrifted

Per Modly Chic, the questions go a lil bit like this:

1. What color dominates your closet? RED, red plaid, red skirts, red high heels, red shirts. Red is absolutely my favorite color and it goes great with any and everything!

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?  I would buy doubles and even triples of the same item in different colors.  It's more economic now though to purchase neutrals and incorporate bold colored accessories.

3.  What is your mantra about mixing colors? Do the unthinkable...be bold...be flashy yet classy.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits? Most times I try to combine classic or neutral pieces and add an unexpected splash of color somewhere, whether it be with shoes or accessories.  I love it when people say, "Oh, I would've never thought to put that together." That's when I know I've done a good job.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe? Words and Wardrobes, Kendi Everyday, Miss Vinyl Ahoy, Blog Fashion

Join in on the FBFF fun by clicking here.

1. Would you rather be on ABC's Extreme Home Makeover or TLC's What Not To Wear? Definitely on the Extreme Home Makeover! My house is a hot mess right now!

2. Do you have any tattoos? 8 of 'em and counting! I want a half-sleeve sooo bad but I'm worried that it looks too unprofessional!

3. Do you tell your kids about things you did when growing up? NO KIDS yet. But I would if I had them.

4. If the traffic signal turns yellow, do you stop or speed up? This is soooo bad but I definitely speed up if I'm close enough to make it.

5. What's your preference: chocolate or chips? What! Why can't I do both! Ummm, chips-Pretzels and Cheetos, Sun Chips and  Nacho Cheese Doritos!!

Until next time, no more SNOW! Thanks for reading!

Like A Snow Machine on the North Pole....I Don't Need It!!

The weatherman is calling for snow-AGAIN!!! I don't need it....I don't want it!!  Though it looks beautiful, it's such a headache-it's messy and it requires too much cleanup...not to mention the unbelievable amount of accidents that are caused by it because people act like they got their license out of a box of Capt'n Crunch. All of that coupled with the fact that I don't want anymore of my holidays to be taken away from me for yet another 'makeup' day.  So yeah, the weatherman can keep his predictions of snow because I'm not in favor of it! Ok. Thanks!

I always look forward to Thursday's so I can share all of my Awkward...and Awesome events with you.  So here goes...

AWKWARD
-Have you ever encountered those types of people who, no matter how many times they see you in one day, they speak to you every time?  Like, seriously, didn't I just speak to you 2 hours ago?  Another greeting is sooo not necessary. I'm doing fine-and I was doing fine 2 hours ago when you asked me! It's annoying and I'm gonna ignore you the next time you do it. Mkay?

-So my Mother's Bday was on Monday.  Me being me, I kinda waited until the last minute to get the small stuff like cake and balloons. And apparently since Valentine's Day is fast approaching, the manufacturer's didn't even bother making birthday balloons for the week.  WTH! I went to THREE different stores and couldn't find a single birthday balloon so I had to settle for one that said 'I Love You'.  Imagine how embarrassed I was giving my Mom a Valentine's Day pylar. Where they do that at!?

-The word 'slacks'. Teehee

-Okay in our culture, some people give you a light peck on the cheek when they hug you. I guess it's a nice way of saying, 'hey, I really like you as a person'. Well, I spent some time with my BFs family this past weekend and before leaving his mom hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.  Well, I didn't reciprocate. Not because I don't like her but by the time I caught on and went to return the gesture, she had long since pulled away so I was standing there looking simple with my lips pursed in the air! LOL. In the back of my mind all I could think was 'oh no, I hope she didn't think I was being rude'.

-People who knowingly purchase their pants too long and then spend the whole day annoyingly pulling and tugging at them.  Ugggh that bugs the shit outta me like hearing someone scratch their fingernails on a chalkboard!

AWESOME
-Steve Harvey. His books. Family Feud. 95.7FM. I love that man!

-'A Cheesecake Named Desire' from Coldstone! Orgasmic!!

-My BF is my bestest friend.

-My 30 for 30 outfit...10 down 20 to go!

I'm loving the how the blue accessories add so much flair!

You Can't Be Scared When It Goes Down!!!

It's all about Wednesday!! One more day in the work week for me because I'm off of Friday! YESSSS!!! My plans consist of trying to get a hold of the monster that lives in my closet so that I can take him dooowwwnnn! Like seriously, I get disgusted everytime I open my closet door.  It's a shame that I have let my things pile up so much. I would take a pic to show you guys but honestly I'm embarrassed! Now that's BADD!
Anywho, the 'Word on the Street' for today is a movie that the BF and I watched called Case 39. I was a little hesitant about getting it because upon first glance I thought it would be just another cheesy thriller.  Turns out, I was actually intrigued and stayed awake throughout the whole movie.  With all of the twists and turns, it kept me engaged and I like that. This movie is centered around a social worker who fights to save a girl from her abusive parents. Being that I work directly with children (and believe me when I say that they have some horrifying issues) I thought that it would be something that I could relate to.  Let's just say that all children are NOT meant to be saved!!

My rating-8.5/10
In other news, the 30 for 30 challenge is going pretty swell but I'm already tired of looking at the same items and I want to play with some of the other things in my closet. Despite it's purpose to save me money, I haven't saved a red hot dime but I'm gonna press on anyway. Here's my fit for today:

NY & Co from head to toe

Sorry about the lighting!

Yeah so these pics kinda suck but you get where I'm going with the outfit!  My eyes are beginning to feel really heavy and I still have studying to do so until we meet again...ciao! Thanks for reading!

All Around the World...Do You Hear Me??

Got my blazer on...I feel like I need to be handling some business somewhere. Everybody Everywear is showing off how the lovely ladies around the world styled their classic blazer today.  Of course this ensemble is doing a double duty as my Color Brigade outfit as well so go over here to check it out.

In other Tuesday news, The Undomestic Momma has featured a discussion on 'The Top 2 Things You've Learned About Blogging' over here.

So of course I have to add my two cents.  I'm still pretty new to the game but so far I've learned that:

1. You should keep your content fresh and up to date. There's nothing I hate more than visiting a blog that I  follow and seeing that they haven't updated in who knows when.  Helloooo in there....there's a reason why I'm following you, but oh don't worry, you can get 'unfollowed' just the same!

2. You have to be involved.  As with anything, being actively involved is the only way people are going to notice you.  You can't just create a blog and then sit and twiddle your thumbs hoping that someone will miraculously think to visit you.  Join and link up with blog events that interest you.  Also don't expect your visitors to be consistent if you don't return the favor!

Well, seeing as how I'm posting this before I go to work, I'm kinda in a rush so short, simple, and to the point works for me today. Don't forget to visit me tomorrow for 'Word On the Street Wednesday' to discuss your favorite movie, book or event of the week. I'll see ya there. Thanks for reading!

On A Monday, I Am Waiting...

I'm so sluggish on Monday's! I wish that the weekend were 3 days instead of two. Then my weekend would go something like this:

Friday: wind down from a week's worth of work, go to happy hour, hang out with friends

(insert random word)day: chill and lounge around the house all day in PJs, watch movies, maybe clean up a teeny weeny bit

Sunday: get ready for Monday

Unfortunately, doesn't look like things are gonna work in my favor anytime soon.
Sooo, the Steelers lost! Green Bay won their first Superbowl in 14 years and I could care less because I don't like either one of the teams. Yeah, yeah I'm a Cowboy chic!  Shame on you who are pointing at the computer and laughing at me right now. I said it-I like the COWBOYS! I'm now left to wonder Wiz Khalifa's song 'Black and Yellow' is still relevant!
I'm gonna keep it short today because I need to get caught up on my real work, as in my 'job that pays the bills' work. In today's Weekly Gratitude news, I want to thank a couple of people who visited my blog and left me really nice comments:

1. "So, I love your red shirt and cardigan. I also loved that I LOL at your "awkard" section. "

2. "Love this outfit especially the scarf..too cute, and my word on the street is the Commanding your Morning by:Cindy Trimm Awesome book about the power of what we say and daily affirmations. 2 thumbs up. "
I'm thankful for each of you that stop by each and every day even though my blog is 2 days old (that was sarcastically said, BTW)! I love to visit other blogs and leave cool comments too but alot of your blogs won't allow me to leave comments so I'm not sure how to deal with that. Until then all I can do is window shop. If any of you have suggestions or tips let me know, otherwise, here's my Monday fit.

Cardigan-AE/Blouse-NY & Co/Slacks-NY & Co

I'm not feeling this fit today but oh well, it's Monday and I woke up late. I can't wait to wear my Blazer tomorrow though  for Everyday Everywear's monthly feature. This month the item is the 'classic blazer'. Go here if you want to participate and show everyone how you style yours!  Thanks for reading!

I Only Want to see You Bathing in the Purple Rain!

Soooo, I took off for the weekend.  The 30 for 30 seriously had me worn out ALL-Ready!! Not to mention my weekend started off horrendously with a flat tire-I'm getting over a cold so I was trying to blow my nose while driving and.....WHAM right smack into the curb and busted my tire open!  Thank Mom for AAA-I've called those suckers TWICE in the last two months. If I keep going at this rate I might as well purchase some stock in the company.  I had a ton of homework I needed to catch up on and to top it off I had to do some birthday shopping for my mother-that took lots of brainstorming because really, what do you get for a woman who has everything!?  At any rate, one of my other projects for the weekend was to start scrolling throught Kendi's 'Remixer List' to see if I can add some new friends. And when I say scrolling I really mean scrolling-I started with the A's and have clicked my way through every single blog up until I stopped to write this post and I am currently on the E's.  Maybe I will be finished by the end of the challenge, maybe I won't!  While vigorously scrolling and clicking I was disappointed to see that several people haven't even updated their posts in months and suprisingly so, many of the remixers started their blogs specifically for the challenge. And to that I say:
"Damn Kendi, you gots skillz! Hats off to you and all of your flyness!"

Speaking of flyness, check out mine:

It's My Prerogative!!

Ahhh...(sighing a breath of relief) it's Friday. The day that most 9 to 5'ers live for!! The day that I can kick my feet up in the air and have a whole bottle of Moscato to myself because I can sleep in on Saturday. The day that I abandon all forms of paperwork and decide instead to watch movies all night because I can do what I want. The day that I can ignore the dress code and wear a skin tight miniskirt because I'm a grown a$$ woman. I can wear whatever color I want because I'm a woman who lives by my own rules. I'm going to wear red because it's my favorite and it represents my personality-feisty, bold, and hooootttt!!! It represents every woman. It represents matters of the heart. I wear my red proudly because I represent the cause to raise the awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of today's women. It is 'National Go Red for Women's Day' and Heart Disease Awareness Month.

Participate in Heart Disease Awareness Events

If you would like to participate in other events going on this month you may visit Andie here. This is such a great cause. Speaking of causes, specifically in reference to the content we choose for our blogs, I'm also going to join in on Katy's Friend Friday discussion over here. While some people try to take shots at blogging events, stating that they are full of bandwagoners (I'm quite sure I just made up a word?) and phonies trying to claim fame in the blogosphere, others of us, myself included, are actually genuine in our approach to participate in events, whether it be for a specific cause (ie-Heart Disease Awareness) or just because it's something that interests us. Hang tight people-this is gonna be interesting!

1. With all the blogging events out there how do you determine which ones to participate in and which ones to avoid? Well personally I've always been the type of person who likes to be involved in alot of things.  If it interests me and there is no time conflict, I will participate. Especially if it's for a cause such as Heart Disease Awareness.  It's not about fame or jumping on a bandwagon. I just like to be involved; it's no different from my desire to volunteer and give back to my community, my want to recycle, and my desire to show off my outfits!

2. Be honest, have you ever jumped on the bandwagon of some blogging movement/event for the wrong reasons? How did that turn out? I'm not a bandwagon type of chic. I do what makes me happy-my actions are never determined by what others tend to gravitate towards.

3. How do you give your own flair to a blog event while still maintaining the general mission and purpose? Just by doing me and being creative.  I try to take the themes of different events and somehow incorporate them into my life story or 'topic of the day' so in essence my posts turn out to be like journal entries rather than pointless rambling.  For instance, on Monday's I participate in Weekly Gratitude-the blog was created in order to serve as inspiration for bloggers to say out loud or in writing those things that have fulfilled us, changed us, touched us or simply made us happy that week. I add my own flair by highlighting 3 of my favorite comments that were left on my blog for the week.

4. When determining the best content for your blog what criterion do you keep in mind? Everyone loves to see how you put your personal spin on everyday style so I keep that in mind.  I also love to write so I try to combine those aspects to make for something that's fun and interesting to read.  I stay true to what I know and I think that's the key to being a successful blogger!

5. While everything will not suit your blog, how do you try and support your fellow bloggers who are participating in something worthwhile but not your style? Maybe make a comment or at least mention it in a daily post and include a link back to them.

FBFF is sooo much fun. I look forward to it every Friday and apparently others do to.  Join in on the fun by going here. And in support of 'National Go Red for Women Day', here is me in my RED.  These pieces all happen to be a part of my 30 for 30 as well. That took some great planning skills, if I must say so myself! Tee hee!!!

Cardigan-Old Navy/Gingham Shortie-American Eagle/Khakis-NY & Co.

(I tried to cover the annoying looking light from the flash..bad job)
Okay so I've been waiting patiently for the blanks and here they are for this weeks Fill in the Blank Friday.

1. If I could only read one magazine publication for the rest of eternity, I would choose>>> Cosmopolitan-who doesn't love great sex and relationship tips. Their fashion editorials are pretty bomb too!

2. If I were to run my own magazine it would be>>> a fashion magazine for thrifters and how people style their thrifted finds. I've thought about this all too much-I'm gonna call it Thrifty. Seriously, this has been in my arsenal for years and this here blog is my documentation that I'm the curator of the idea!

3. I buy magazines (at the grocery check stand or via subscription) >>> if I had to choose these days, it would be via subscription because it saves more money. Nowadays, I just read them all while standing in the line at Walmart!

4. I prefer my magazines (in print or online) >>> definitely in print vs. online.  I like to tear out the images and hang them up on my walls!

5. The number of magazines I buy each month is >>> see blank 3!

6. My favorite magazine genre is (lifestyle, gossip, home, etc.) >>> I'm leaning more towards the lifestyle mags because they pretty much cover a tad bit of all of the above!

7. The magazines I read regularly are >>> Lucky, Cosmo, Teen Vouge (even though I'm not a teen, the fashion finds are more affordable), Essence, Life and Style, People Style Watch, Women's Health, Good Housekeeping

You Know What It Is....

I'm awkward....I'm awesome...I'm awkward and I'm awesome (singing off key)! One more day til the weekend. I'm geeked! Not much in this week's edition of A & A....it's been a pretty lame week thus far but hey look, this is what I wore:

Cardigan-Gap/Shirt-Thrifted/Khakis-Old Navy

Awkward:
-In the state of Virginia, warming your car up (on those mornings that you can see your own breath in the air)is considered to be a legal offense. They don't enforce it unless they are trying to meet quota but to hell with that, I refuse to drive to work in an icebox!

-Okay now I know that different people have varying body temperatures. But come onnn it's minus 2 degrees outside...I'm bundled up with layers, scarf, hat, and leather gloves and all you could muster up is a Tshirt and flip flops. Are you kidding me!?

-Every month at my job we celebrate birthdays with a cake party. So we're all gathered in the lounge singing 'Happy Bday' when my one co-worker begins to cough profusely into her hand. Immediately after, she dove (germ infested) hand first into the cake!! No sanitizer, no 'hey lemme go to the urinal to wash my hands', nothing! What's even more awkward is that no one said a thing...I'm sure my face said it all though...a nasty heifer!

-People who talk you to death!  These types of people will find the absolute worst time to engage in a conversation with you-like when you're reading a book, when you're doing homework, or my favorite is when you're clearly in a rush out the door with your hand on the doorknob. Really lady, you have to tell me about your life story right now!

-Groundhog Day is soooo backwards.  Who gave a beaver the authority to predict the seasons?

-I met a baby today....her name....Celestial Star...reminds me of a popular brand of tea that I drink! What in THE world!!!

Awesome:
-My homemade cajun penne pasta! I haven't cooked in some time now so my BF begged me to make it for him as he stood over my shoulder asking me if there was anything he could do to help. Awwww...that was sweet of him!

-Nestle's Valentine Swirled Chocolate Chip Cookies with ice cold milk

-Wiz Khalifa's act of genius! Until now he has been somewhat of an underground artist.  His song 'Black and Yellow' has become the new anthem of the year and has even prompted the Steelers to go extra hard this football season.  Hence, their spot in this year's Superbowl. That song is gonna generate tons of money for ole' Khalifa. Good job Wiz!

It's been fun friends.

SIDENOTE: Tomorrow is 'National Go Red for Women Day' so  I will be dressing in red to help promote the awareness of Heart Disease.  Go on over and visit Andie in order to participate in upcoming events throughout the month. Thanks for reading!

In this Moment I just Feel so ALIVE!!!

Word on the Street is that it's humpday! Halfway into the workweek...2.5 more days to go. 2 days into the 30 for 30 and this is what I'm rockin'!

A lil closer...
I especially like the brown vintage purse shown here (lol, it definitely came from Target)...

Accessories can add soooo much life to an otherwise drab outfit so today I decided to remix these pieces by adding an American Eagle scarf and cinching a belt at the waist.  I love playing around with accessories to see how many different combinations I can come up with!

In this week's edition of  'Word on the Street Wednesday' I want to highlight another movie. Yes, yet another REDBOX night with the BF.  We had the chance to watch Buried.  It's centered around a private contractor named Paul, who has been assigned to do some work in Iraq.  Well he ends up getting kidnapped and awakens to find himself buried inside a coffin.  His survival items-a lighter and a cell phone.  Although interesting in the beginning, the monotony began to bore me. Nevertheless, it was a pretty decent flick.

My rating- 7.5/10

Since Linky Tools will no longer be free as of February 7, I will forego the linky list and just make this a regular feature.  If you would like to join in on the fun by leaving a comment about your favorite movie, book, or event of the week, they are always welcome. Until next time...toodles!

Hey...Oh Let's Do It!!

Ahh...tis the season for a new day.  It's a new month, a new week, and I got a new attitude!  All that, PLUS it's the very first day of the 30 for 30 challenge. This is the very first wardrobe challenge that I've participated in and I'm hoping that I didn't bite off more than I can chew!! Got my camera back in working order so I can now disclose the final item that I had picked out for the challenge.  Just so happened this little mama was in the wash when I was taking photos so I missed her! Anyways, this is the lost one-the grey cardigan pictured below. So since it's already out of the closet, pressed, and ready to wear, I will start my challenge off with it! I feel like I'm gonna get a lot of wear out of this NY & Co. number over the next 30 days and for a whopping 8 bucks it was well worth it!

This whole outfit, with the exception of the black blazer is NY & Co. and will serve as my Color Brigade fit for the week as well.  I love these pieces and decided to add them for this challenge because they are so versatile and can be worn with almost everything in my closet! LOVES 'EM!!! Now for my favorite part of this post...drumroll please....Top 2 Tuesday.  This week begins the start of the 'Top 2 Tuesday Series' and the first topic is 'Things You've Learned About Friendship'. I only happen to have a handful of really close friends, however they are soooo dear to me so this topic is one that I could talk about for days! In particular, I've learned that...

1. Friendship should be valued. Everyone is not your friend and should not automatically be given the title of being so. Most people you meet in your life are mere acquaintances...nothing more, nothing less! So many times I've heard the term 'best friend' that I've almost forgotten what it means myself. A best friend means soo much more than knowing a person for a number of years or being a person that you hang out and party with on the weekends.

2. Just like flowers, friendships need to be watered in order to grow. When you meet someone they don't instantly become your friend-that takes time-it's the experiences, tribulations, tears shed in heartfelt conversation, disclosure of confidential information without questioning the loyalty of the other person. Friendship, just like love, should be unconditional.

As I said before I could go on for days about this subject but I'm gonna leave it be for now. Go on over to The Undomestic Momma to leave your two cents. And also visit Kileen to participate in the Color Brigade! Lastly, tomorrow is 'Word on the Street Wednesday'. Come on over and lemme know about your favorite movie, book, or event of the week.  Have a great Tuesday. See ya tomorrow for 2/30!

Thanks for reading!
