Just Me And Proenza...

It's Thursday. YES!!!

 This week has been sooo dreary that I literally can't take it anymore. It has rained everyday since Saturday and I'm sick of it! I really wish it would just snow already. Tonight would be great! Then I would have an extra long weekend!

Anyhow, this weekend will be much like that of last weekend-full of DIY projects and shop updates. Last weekend, I worked on these hand crafted picture frames. This go round I want to work on making some red flare leg pants. Stay tuned to see how that project turns out.

The rest of my time will be spent planning my trip to the Presidential Inauguration on Monday. I'm super excited about that!

I'm also super excited that I had the chance to score this Proenza Schouler sweatshirt on clearance from Target while Neiman Marcus was featuring their holiday line there.

While searching through my wardrobe, I noticed that not only was my sweater collection fairly slim, but that I owned absolutely NO sweatshirts-only hoodies that need to be replaced because they are now years and years old.

I had been eyeing this sweatshirt since the line debuted so I was super excited when it finally got marked down to 70% off.

Because I don't do full price honey-no way, no how! Not if I can help it.

Every piece of this outfit was purchased on clearance or at a rock bottom redline price.

Even down to the accessories. The watch was 50% off and the ring was $5.99 at NY & Co.

And this BCBG bracelet was also $5.99 at Dillards.

The shorts were all of $2 from Gap during one of their end of season clearance sales...

And oh yeah, back to the matter at hand-THE SWEATSHIRT! I got it for $8.98 as opposed to $30. I'm also in love with the fact that it can be dressed down like I've done with this look or it can be dressed up with some cute leather pants and sparkly heels. It's so versatile. I love great buys; they make me giddy.

I'm so glad that I got it when I did because it was perfect for a casual lunch date with my girlfriend.

Now, if only I can continue to find great sweatshirts to add to my collection my life would be complete.

Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Hand Crafted Picture Frames

Happy Monday!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was very productive. I don't think I left the house all weekend, except to mail customer orders from my shop. That means, I did absolutely no shopping. And you have NO idea how hard that was for me.

Forcing myself to stay in the house wasn't actually that bad at all-it gave me a chance to deep clean my house as well as get some decorating and DIY projects done.

In case you don't know, I'm very much into taking pictures-not just for blogging purposes-but also for the memories. I'm always the girl with the camera at any family function or event that goes down.  With that being said, I have tons of photo prints laying around my house. So when I saw craft frames at Michael's for $.50 I knew I had to have them for my gallery wall.

I figured that hand crafted frames would add personality to my wall, rather than having a bunch of 'blahzay' frames hanging without purpose.

Here's what I used to complete my hand crafted frame project:

-6 wooden craft frames
-Acrylic craft paint (I used a slate grey and black)
-newspaper (to protect your work surface)
-a medium size craft brush
-Black/grey sharpies
-Mod Podge (not pictured)
-Painter's tape (not pictured)

That's it! You're ready to begin.

Use your craft brush to paint the blank frames with two coats of your chosen acrylic paint color(s).

I painted 3 of them grey and 3 of them black so that I could alternate designs.

Allow approximately 2 hours to dry. Then, use the painters tape to section off each frame according to how you would like them designed-I chose polka dots, cheveron, stripes, and some randomly abstract lattice design.

The first frame design, which happened to be the polka dots, turned out to be my favorite! I used the sticks that came with the frames to create the dots like so...

I coated the remaining frames with two coats of an alternating color. For example, the frames that were originally based with grey paint, got covered with black paint and vice versa. The additional coats were left for another 2 hours to dry. Once the painters tape was removed, they looked like this...

I then used Sharpies to clean up the lines a little bit.

Allow the 'cleaned up' lines to dry then paint each frame with a coat of Mod Podge to seal your job and create a semi-glossy finish.

Being the frugalista that I am, I only order picture prints when I find deals where I can get them for FREE so that's how I ended up with the pictures. Be sure to 'like' my FB Page so you can get in on the freebies too!

All in all, I spent about $10 on this project. I am super excited about how well they turned out and I can't wait to share my full gallery with you all.

Classically Stated...

 Happy Thursday my loves!

We are one day closer to the weekend. I am so glad that this has been a fairly speedy work week. I don't have major plans for the weekend as my last couple of weekends have been pretty hectic. Since I am planning to visit DC in a couple of weeks for the Inauguration I'm going to try to lay low and stay in the house.

I'm hoping to get started on some new DIY projects as well as my 2013 vision board. I'm also looking forward to adding some new and exciting things to my shop, Miss Rockwells Racks. So even though I will be on the low this weekend, I promise to make it a productive one.

It's been a while since I've done an outfit post so I wanted to make sure I shared a 'fit that I put together to attend church a couple of weeks ago.

I've always had an affinity for classic pieces. They never go out of style and they can be remixed numerous times without losing their effect.

Take this striped turtle neck, cropped cigarette pants, and gray blazer.  When viewed separately these items are ordinary, nothing to call home about. But when these essential items are paired together, they create a clean, classically stated look.

I also love bold statement pieces that can be remixed over and over again.

For instance, this purse is one of my faves! I thrifted it a couple of years ago and I can't get enough of it. I think it's really chic and sophisticated.

These leopard heels that I scored from Ebay are also one of my go to items. They bring out the best in this otherwise simplistic outfit.

This blazer was another one of my thrifted finds.  Leaving the store with this baby was a no brainer as I have yet to find this type of blazer anywhere. I'm thinking of adding some elbow patches to it soon.

It always amazes me how well I like effortless looks. 

It reminds me that style does not always have to be complicated in order to be well executed!

Savin' Maven Monday: Packing for A Roadtrip

Happy Monday my loves!

 

I hope your weekend was enjoyable. Mine was very productive. I met with a girlfriend to discuss future 'thrifty and shameless' events and I also teamed up with another of my girlfriends for one out of three of our weekly gym visits.

 

If you're following me on Instagram then you know that the honey and I recently took a trip to DC for a FREE basketball game. It was only scheduled to be a quick, overnight trip, however.....me being the fashion enthusiast that I am, I took it a little overboard in the packing department.

 

I used this handy dandy packing checklist that I scored from the Dollar Deals section at Target to aid me through the process.  

 

 

As stated before, this was only supposed to be a quick trip but I packed like I was going to be away for weeks. I found that separating all of my clothing into sections and laying them out like so really helped me.

I've never packed anything this strategically until I became a blogger.

 

Sheesh!!

 

Something that also helped to save room as well as time while packing was rolling each section of clothing up like so...

 

 

With the clothes being rolled up by sections I was able to create extra space for my shoes instead of having to carry another bag.

 



I took all of my accessories and laid them out on a hand towel....

 



 

I carefully wrapped them up...

 

And placed them on top of all of the 'sectioned rolls'. This ensured that they wouldn't get tangled and/or lost in the luggage scuffle!

 



 

The remainder of the miscellaneous items (ie-makeup, hair products, chargers, etc.) were stored in the side pockets of my suitcase.

 

I also found it extremely helpful to store previously opened hair products inside of a Ziploc bag in order to keep possible spillage from damaging surrounding items.

 

This is what my packing checklist ended up looking like.

 

 

And now I'm all set to go on this 2 day road trip.

 

Of course the first thing that the honey said when he saw this....

 

was that I should be ashamed of myself! He went on about how there is no way that I would need all of this for just 2 days.

 

I agree.

 

But what can I say, a girl needs options!!!
