Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Gender Reveal Party

Hello and Happy Monday my loves!!!

I hope all of you had a very great and productive weekend. Mine was a blast. I got to spend a very special moment with some of my family and closest friends.

I'm generally a very private person so lots of my innermost feelings and personal accomplishments, milestones don't really get shared here. I can't really explain why I'm like this; it's just one of my many quirky personality traits.

However, this moment was so special and dear to me that I wanted to make sure to document it in all of its glory.

If you all aren't already aware, my honey and I are expecting this December. It's hard to tell from my recent outfit posts-here, here, and here-because at over 21 weeks I still haven't developed much of a baby bump. Believe me, I've been comparing pregnancy bumps and wondering why I still look so abnormally normal for someone who is halfway through her pregnancy but the doctors assure that our little Peanut is just fine in here.

The honey and I found out at the end of April and I told my Mother and Sister about the news with an ultrasound and a card on Mother's Day. They were ecstatic, as were our friends and the rest of our families. My family in particular hasn't had a new baby in 12 years so everyone is super excited to spoil our little one-great for the baby; an extreme Catch 22 for us as parents.

Anyhow, our gender reveal was this past weekend and it was such a joy to finally find out the gender of our little one. Please be advised that this post is pic heavy before reading on.

I didn't want the traditional invites so I went with something creative and bold...

This design came in a package set with cupcake toppers, a banner, etc. I ordered the set from

Debbie did everything perfectly and exactly how I asked.

Everything was printed on card stock so I had to cut the pieces out myself , which I was totally OK with.

The cake...

***Homemade by my besties coworker. Cake baking is a pastime of hers so I was charged very little for this gorgeous 3 tier deliciousness***

The table setup...

***All decor was purchased from The Dollar Tree and the thrift store along with the dollar bins at Michael's***

The food...

We made everyone take a vote for the gender before the actual reveal. The final vote had Kennedy winning at a 7-5 vote.

We gathered around to cut into the cake at 5PM sharp.

The parents-honey and I!

I elected him to do the cutting because I was shaking way too profusely to be able to hold the knife steady.

As soon as I saw a peek of the color, I went absolutely NUTSO!!!

Our little Peanut is a.....

A BOY...A LITTLE FELLA...A LAD...MOMMA'S BOY...DADDY'S BEST FRIEND!!!

This feeling is truly inexplicable.

Funny that we both wore blue too!!

Our KJ!!!!

We couldn't be happier. We both wanted a boy!!!

Now my beautiful Princess goddaughter will have a 'boyfriend' and her mother and I can finally plan playdates...

My mother is already planning for him to have his own closet at her house...

And my besties can't wait to spoil him rotten along with the rest of the family!!!

We are totally excited about parenthood and the fabulous journey with our son.

I will try not to bombard you all with new and exciting updates (his first smile, first Christmas, the first time he holds his head up, etc) about our boy but I won't promise you anything at all.

Just bear with me please!!!

I know this has been an extremely long post so thanks a bunch for reading.

XOOXOXO

Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Polka Dot Sneakers...

I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with these shoes when I saw Eboni from

The Fashionista Next Door

style them here....

Keds $45

Thrifty and Shamlessly speaking, I really didn't wanna pay that much for them so I was super excited when I saw these blue Mossimo sneakers on clearance for $3.88.

This is another one of those easy peasy DIY projects that takes no more than 5 minutes to create.

Here's what you will need:

~Mossimo Canvas Sneakers ($3.88 from Target)
~Craft Paint
~These round stick thingies that came with my DIY Picture Frames.
~Newspaper

That's it. You're ready to begin.

Before I even started I balled up 2 large pieces of newspaper and stuffed one in each shoe. This provided be  with more of a smooth surface.

STEP 1: Take one of the round stick thingies and dip it in the acrylic paint...

Make sure the tip is fully covered...

STEP 2: Begin dotting. Again there no rhyme nor reason as to how I placed the dots on the shoe. This is how the shoe looked after I dotted half of the toe.

STEP 3:  Dot some more and viola...

I thought of doing more of the tan color on the seams but the white is speaking to me.

So I left them like this!!

I can't wait to wear them...

Stay tuned for styling posts to come.

Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Jeweled Heels

Happy Monday my loves.

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. Mine was actually very productive. I was able to post some new things in my boutique, Miss Rockwells Racks, as well as work on a DIY project that I've had saved in my Pinterest folder for a while.

When I found these jeweled heels (originally pinned from Boss Chicks) I immediately died.

I knew I had to recreate. And that I did.

Here's what I used to create my very own.

**Colored Pumps (on clearance for $9 from Target)
**Assorted Acrylic Jewels
**Glue Gun

That's it.

Let me first warn you that these pictures are crap with a capital C! I had to take them with my phone because my honey and I swapped the big boy camera for the weekend so he could get some filming done.

Anyhow these are the jewels that I decided to use.

There really was no rhyme or reason to that went into the design process here. I totally winged it and the shoes came out like so....

This was by far thee easiest DIY ever.

Just pick out the jewels.Glue.And wait for them to dry.

I'm actually in love with how they turned out. These pics don't do the shoes any justice at all but you will most definitely get a better view of them when I style them.

Pinterest is hella amazing for giving me so much inspiration. You should totally follow me.

And stay tuned for more super easy and frugal DIY projects.

Savin' Maven Monday: DIY Denim Patch T-Shirt

Hello and happy Monday my loves.

I hope each of you had a great and relaxing weekend. Mine was actually pretty productive. I was finally able to go thrifting on Friday and Saturday and lemme tell you-the thrifting Gods were definitely on my side. I found a ton of cute things that I will be sharing with you all very soon. I was also able to spend some much needed QT with the honey as well as work on a few DIY projects while viewing and commentating on the Academy Awards.

I just about died when I saw a post of this JCrew Patchwork sweatshirt pop up on my Twitter timeline. I knew instantly that I needed wanted to recreate it. So I went searching through my things for the perfect t-shirt to experiment on.

I ended up with one of my Old Navy tshirts that I purchased during a 2011 sweater clearance. I loved the shirt when I purchased it but for some odd reason, I just couldn't find anything to pair it with.  I felt like if I gave the shirt a little umph, I would be more likely to wear it so here we are.

Here's what I used for my project:

-old (or new) T-shirt
-permanent marker
-fabric shears
-fabric glue
-old denim scraps (from previous DIY)
-ruler

That's it! You're ready to begin.

STEP 1: Use your ruler and permanent marker to sketch an initial (or whatever else you may decide) of your choice onto denim scraps. Make certain that the denim is turned inside when you sketch your initial. This proves to be helpful; so in case you mess up it will never be seen. Also, make sure to draw your initial backwards so that it will be right side up when you eventually glue it to your fabric.

STEP 2: Strategically place your cut initial onto the front of your tshirt. I chose an off centered placement.

STEP 3: Use fabric glue to adhere the initial to the tshirt. Allow 1-2 hours to dry.

This would've actually been the final step but since I've gone completely crazy over elbow patches here lately I figured I would spice the tee up even more with this simple addition.

STEP 4: Use a stencil (or freehand) to draw an oval shape on a double layer of denim scrap. Again, make sure that the denim in turned inside out while drawing.

STEP 5: Cut the ovals out and use fabric glue to adhere them to the elbow portion of the tshirt.

That's it! Easy as pie and equally inexpensive.

I actually can't wait to wear the shirt now.

What do you think of today's DIY?

I can't wait to hear from you.

Thanks for reading.
